Why this actually matters

Asbestos is still everywhere Australians live and work — and the risk isn't in the past.

Australia banned asbestos in 2003, but roughly half of the 13 million tonnes installed before then is still in situ. In homes, rentals, schools, sheds and workplaces. Here's what the data says.

Five moments when you genuinely need a specialist

    Before you buy an older property

    Standard pre-purchase building & pest reports do not include asbestos testing. For any house built before 1990, an asbestos assessment is a separate — and very worthwhile — exercise.

  • 02
    Before any renovation or demolition

    Under QLD WHS Regulation s452/453, asbestos must be identified and removed before demolition. If no asbestos register exists, work can't legally start until an inspection has been done.

  • 03
    For commercial buildings & rentals built before 1990

    A person with management or control of a workplace must maintain an asbestos register and a written management plan. Domestic premises are exempt, but strata, rentals and commercial spaces are not.

  • 04
    After cyclone, fire or storm damage

    Damaged fibro sheeting releases fibres. In the Wide Bay — a region that wears storms and cyclones regularly — damaged material should be assessed before clean-up, not during.

    After any licensed removal work

    Clearance inspections must be carried out by an independent competent person or licensed asbestos assessor — never by the business that did the removal. We're independent by design.

Asbestos Sampling & Identification

Suspect material? We take the sample, secure the site, and send it to a NATA-accredited lab for analysis.

  • Written identification report within 24–48 hours of sample receipt
  • Guidance on next steps — manage in situ, or engage a licensed removalist

Clearance Inspections

After licensed removal work, an independent clearance inspection & certificate so the area can safely return to normal use.

  • Class A work: licensed asbestos assessor · Class B: competent person
